If you want a clear backboard that will not be heavy or break, then avoid glass and acrlyic. Instead use a polycarbonate such as LEXAN made by GE, which is nearly unbreakable. It is used by NASCAR to avoid windshield breakage.The cost for each backboard is about $150 for quarter inch thick and $300 for half inch (my personal favorite) and you will have to have it custom cut (Home Depot or Lowe's will usually be able to order it for you).It is well worth it not having to ever replace it. EVER!!!
